Waiting for the economic downturn to come

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Worried about the economic downturn? I for one have been waiting for it to arrive. Why? Less competitors survive, less competition for skilled workers, opportunities galore. Old ways of doing business don’t work. Creativity replaces problem solving as new solutions are found. There is more money made (by some) in economic downturns than in good times. It’s all about how you look at it. In good times anyone can pick the low hanging fruit and make a buck. It’s when the market gets tougher that solid companies rise to the top. Know your business inside and out and prepare for some wild rides in the future.

CMS Web Solutions enters agreement with The Search Engine People

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Last week CMS Web Solutions Inc. began reselling the services of The Search Engine People (SEP), an Internet marketing firm in Ajax. They are one of Canada’s premier search engine marketing companies with clients such as RIM, ING and Canwest Global just to mention a few. Although SEP have been clients for a number of years now, their target market has been bigger than ours. Recently, they’ve created packages that meet our 5 – 50 employee target market and we agreed to be resellers. What does this mean to our clients? It means that some of the money currently going to off line marketing can shift to where the market is…the Internet. It means clients can go after specific market niches locally and around the world. It means, unlike many offline marketing initiatives, actual data can be extracted and measured, allowing for fine tuning based on fact. Properly built search engine friendly websites need to go hand and hand with well planned and executed Internet marketing strategies. Together, from our little place on the planet, we can now help clients capture new markets that at one time would have been cost prohibitive. What an exciting time to be in business!

Going Global. Lessons from a Port Perry, Ontario Web Design company

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

The industrialized age is coming to an end quicker than some would like to admit. Seems the knowledge economy, accelerated by the Internet, is speeding us to places “where no man has gone before”. Creation and collaboration are the new names of the game. And this collaboration is now global. Take our web design business. Lately we’ve been finding answers to our problems throughout the world. It’s easy and frankly fun. Here’s how it works. You have a “problem”. You find a forum on the Internet (a forum is like an online community) where like minded professionals in “the problem” field collaborate. You indicate your problem and community member’s respond with answers. Periodically we get a qualified forum member to fix the problem for us for a fee. We’ve had problems fixed (and fast) by people in United States, England and even Australia. These communities are online and friendly. And we now have connections there. Being a Port Perry, Ontario web design and Internet marketing firm, we typically see trends a bit sooner than most. Although this collaboration trend has been building for years now, the difference is in how many different fields it’s happening in. When computers came out, those who learned and became comfortable with them sooner were able to capitalize sooner. Try going Global. Learn and start to become comfortable in this new creative and collaborative world. You never know where it will lead to.

Another reason to stay away from Flash Web Design

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Have you ever been to a website and you need to wait for it to “load”? That’s a Flash site.  Although flash is pretty, it’s very limiting. For example, I just got a new iPhone. I can’t see flash sites. It’s only pretty if people can see it and have the patience to wait around for the website to load. Remember it’s about form and function when it comes to web design. Durham companies need to be seen in the world on all devices.
