For Retailers Who want more Business

Friday, August 31st, 2007

Are you gathering email addresses of most that come through your store? If no, why not?
Think of them as seeds you send out into the world. How will you care for them and nurture them?
They are more likely to provide an email address if you make it fun/rewarding for them…give them a reason!
Once they buy something, others might ask, “where did you get that?” Then you’ll have 2 seeds.
If your store has a unique niche, like organic gardening, Scottish products (www.weetartanshop.ca) etc.you can start a club and provide key information, specials etc. Soon you will be leading and connecting circles of like minded customers from around the world. Amazing how all you need is the internet and a post office to sell or buy anywhere in the world. My have times changed.

Treating your Website like a Mass Lottery?

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Throwing up a website without coming at it from a business context is like buying a ticket in a mass lottery and hoping you’ll be the one in 30 million that hits it big. Wanting to get found on Google is no different than wanting to get found in your local “offline” marketplace. Start with your target market. See their face so it focuses your efforts. The days of “everyone is my target market” are over. Now, what are they looking for? Where do they look for it? What words do they look for/appeal to? Once that’s done, create a coordinated marketing campaign for them. Create or adjust your website. Measure, and then adjust again. Remember, no one buys a book for the cover; they buy it for the content. It’s same with your website. Make sure your content resonates to your target market. Maybe then you’ll increase your chances of cashing in on the big win.

Cleveland weather reminds us about our personal impact on the planet

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

With climate change contributing to the weird weather experienced in Cleveland and around the world, it’s becoming apparent that each of us needs to take proactive action in reducing our footprint and reducing greenhouse gasses. We’ve just aligned ourselves with a technology service provider that fixes our (and our client’s) computers through the phone and internet. No need having to wait for a technician to arrive. They just take over your computer (with your permission) and fix 85% of the problems. That’s one more car off the road thanks to technology. How else can we use technology to get off the road?
